InvestEd Privacy Policy

Introduction
InvestEd is an educational personal-finance app that helps teens and beginners (ages 13 and up) learn about investing in a safe, simulated environment. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain English so it's easy to understand.
By using InvestEd, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
What We Collect
We collect only the information needed to run the app and give you a personalized learning experience:
- Account information: Your email address and username. Your password is handled securely by Firebase Authentication (see "Third Parties" below) and is never visible to us in plain text.
- Learning progress: Which lessons you've completed, quiz results, and your progress through the app's educational content.
- Simulated portfolio: Your practice ("paper") trades and holdings. This is fake money only. InvestEd does not handle, hold, or transfer real money, and you cannot make real investments through the app.
- Friend connections: The friend relationships and friend requests you create, so you can connect with other users of the app.
- Profile and game stats: Your avatar choices, XP, level, Gold, streak, and achievements.
What Other Users Can See
InvestEd has a few social features (friends and weekly leagues). Other signed-in users can see your username, avatar, level, and weekly XP, for example on a league leaderboard or when they search for your username. They cannot see your email address or password.
What we do NOT collect: - We do not show ads. - We do not use third-party analytics or advertising/tracking SDKs. - We do not collect your real bank details, brokerage accounts, Social Security number, or any real financial account information. - We do not sell your data to anyone. Ever.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and secure your account and sign you in.
- Save and display your learning progress and simulated portfolio.
- Let you connect with friends inside the app.
- Provide real, current market quotes so your practice experience feels realistic.
- Keep the app working, fix problems, and protect against abuse or security threats.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling for marketers, or any purpose unrelated to running InvestEd.
Third Parties We Work With
To operate InvestEd, we rely on a small number of trusted service providers. We share only the minimum information needed for each service to do its job.
- Google Firebase (Authentication & Cloud Firestore): We use Firebase Authentication to manage sign-in (email and password) and Cloud Firestore to securely store your account information, learning progress, simulated portfolio, and friend connections. Firebase is operated by Google. You can review Google's privacy practices at Google's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare (market data relay): Stock quote requests from the app go through a small server we run on Cloudflare Workers, which keeps our data-provider key private. Cloudflare processes the request (including your device's IP address, as any web server does) only to deliver it. We do not log or store these requests with your account.
- Finnhub (market data): Our Cloudflare server requests public stock and market quotes from Finnhub. No personal data about you is sent to Finnhub.
We do not allow these providers to use your information for their own advertising or to sell it.
Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active so the app can function and remember your progress. If you delete your account, we remove your associated data as described in "Account Deletion" below. Some information may remain in routine backups for a limited period before it is automatically overwritten, and we may retain limited records where required by law.
Account Deletion
You are in control of your data. You can delete your account at any time directly within the app.
When you delete your account, we remove your account information, learning progress, simulated portfolio, and friend connections from our active systems. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Residual copies in backups are cleared on our normal backup cycle.

Children's Privacy
InvestEd is intended for users 13 years of age and older. The app is designed as an educational tool and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
If you are under 13, please do not use InvestEd or create an account. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with information, please contact us at the email below.
We encourage parents and guardians of teens (13+) to review this policy with them.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information:
- Sign-in and passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication, so we never store your password ourselves.
- Your data is stored in Cloud Firestore with access controls that limit who and what can read or write it.
- Communication between the app and our services is encrypted in transit.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, InvestEd schedules a daily streak reminder on your device. These reminders are created locally on your phone; we do not use a push-notification server and do not collect a device token. You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings or in your iPhone's Settings at any time.
No app or online service can guarantee perfect security, but we work to protect your information and to keep our practices up to date.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make meaningful changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continuing to use InvestEd after an update means you accept the revised policy.
